“There are no tourists in our family camp. As soon as you enter the camp you are accepted into the family and you are treated as a part of our family.”- Maestro Gumercindo Galindo

Our Ayahuasca jungle retreat, located near Jenaro Herrera, Peru, is a  great introduction for people who are new to working with the sacred Ayahuasca medicine. It’s for people who want to experience the profound benefits of working with Ayahuasca in a traditional setting without it costing the earth.

Ayahuasca is a sacred plant medicine that has been used for thousands of years by the indigenous people of the Amazon to heal, cleanse and purify the mind, body and spirit. Even many Western-trained physicians and psychologists have acknowledged that Ayahuasca can allow access to spiritual dimensions of consciousness, even mystical experiences indistinguishable from classic religious mysticism.

Encountering Ayahuasca is a genuinely profound and often transformative experience that can lead to incredibly deep healing on all levels. She is a doorway to inner worlds that can reveal the multi-dimensional nature of ourselves and reality, as well as giving us access to our own inherent wisdom and infinite self love.

The Shamanic Team

Our Shamanic Team consists of a family team of four – the mother, father and two sons of the Galindo family. These shamans are true maestros of the medicine and are dedicated to sharing their expertise and knowledge with you. In fact, they are never happier than when doing so! In our years of working with many, many shamans, the excellence of this family’s medicine work has yet to be surpassed and is the cornerstone of all our work. The head of the team is the eldest son, Maestro Gumercindo Galindo, and his father, Maestro Roldan Galindo, is his right hand man.

The Family

Who Should Attend?

This retreat is open to anyone who feels called to work with the medicine. We feel this retreat is particularly suited to people who are fairly new to working with Ayahuasca and are looking for a safe and comfortable environment in which to experience traditional sacred Ayahuasca ceremonies in Peru.

We are ideally looking to work with positive and sincere people who have an open-heart and an open-mind.

We are focused on serious spiritual work. Our goal is to both heal and raise consiousness. We do not cater to those who want to experiment with one or two ceremonies. At Ayahuasca Satsangha ayahuasca and the other plant medicines are sacred, they are not recreational drugs, they are not used to “trip”, they are not used for an “experience”. Ayahuasca and the other sacred plant medicines are for learning, cleaning of energies, raising consciousness and healing.

Food at Ayahuasca Satsangha and Dietary Restrictions

All guests will be participating in the shamanic dieta or the training dieta for their first retreat.  For the entire retreat there is no consumption of sweets (sugars and fruits). The restriction of sweets (refined sugars, honey, or artificial sweeteners) must be followed three days after you end the shamanic dieta. There will be no consumption of acid fruits during your stay at Ayahuasca Satsangha. Guests are restricted from eating acid fruits for three days after the dieta ends. Consumption of pork or duck and pork or duck products are not allowed during the stay and both are restricted for 6 months after the dieta ends. Alcohol and street drugs are not allowed at Ayahuasca Satsangha at any time. They must be also abstained from for 30 days after the dieta ends.

Special Note:  Women and Their Cycles-

It is important for women to consider their monthly period when deciding which retreat dates to attend.  It is not a good idea for a woman to be on her period and drink ayahuasca.

The reason for this is that a woman’s period is her natural way of cleansing the body.  Part of this cleansing is the release of energies.  Those energies tend to rise up towards the head in the form of heat.  This is a similar process that happens with ayahuasca and is increased even more while on the dieta.  This “double whammy” is not good, and therefore it is not recommended for women to be on a retreat during this time.

This is by no means a gender bias issue.

Location

Our jungle camp is located in the Amazon rain forest, away from the hustle bustle of Western civilization and the pollution of even smaller Peruvian cities like Iquitos. It is located about 40 minute boat ride from the village of Jenaro Hererra (which is about 4 hours away from Iquitos) and is on a the banks of a pristine river, where you will find a pure experience communing with the natural world. Here’s where you’ll find us:  Google Map Location.

Transport

The cost of the retreat does not include the cost of travelling to Peru and Iquitos. You are responsible for getting yourself to and from Iquitos, but see our Travel page for advice and information on how to get here. We recommend that you arrive in Iquitos at least 48 hours before the retreat starts to give yourself time to prepare, relax and overcome jet lag if you’re likely to have any.

You will also need to pay the cost of transportation by fast boat between Iquitos and Jenaro Herrera where our jungle camp is located. There is a fast boat costs about $30 each way. We will send you full details of transportation when you book on the retreat.

Cost & Payment

This is a donation based retreat so there is no fixed price.

Ayahuasca Satsangha does require a deposit of $500.00 USD to reserve a space for a retreat. This deposit needs to be received at least two weeks prior to your preferred retreat dates. We are requiring a deposit as an indication of commitment. The deposit is paid via Pay Pal.

At the end of your retreat you will have an opportunity to provide Ayahuasca Satsangha with a gift or donation beyond the $500.00 deposit that has already been paid OR if you feel that you have not received anything of value from the retreat we will gladly refund your money.

Again, this gift is to allow us to continue our work. We are still living in a money based society. Money is needed to pay staff, maintain our infrastructure, improve and expand the infrastructure. Any funds that are received that are above and beyond the operational costs of Ayahuasca Satsangha will be directed towards our sustainable community project, Ka’Way Mallki. A description of the Ka’Way Mallki project can be found by clicking here.

Similar retreats in Peru carry a price tag of $1,000.00 USD- $2,300.00 USD. These suggestions are per person, per week long retreat. If you can donate in line with the normal retreat prices that is great. If not, we are here to help.

If you choose to give more than the above price range, you will be helping those people that can not afford the minimum donation to come and do the work that they need to do with us. As mentioned above, you will also be supporting sustainable community development across Peru. See the Ka’Way Mallki project description by clicking here.

Cancellation Policy

If you choose to cancel your retreat with at least 30 days notice, we will refund the full deposit.  If you cancel within 30 days, we will hold your deposit for another retreat date.
